Residential care

This page tells you about living in a registered care home.A registered care home is a home that is set up for people who share a similar disability.

It is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Some important things about registered care homes:

  • They usually have 24-hour staffing.
  • Most of your benefits go directly towards paying for your housing, food, bills, and care and you will receive a small personal allowance.
  • Registered care homes can vary from being small and homely to large and institutional.

Many people with a learning disability live in registered care homes but this is now changing as more people choose other housing options.

You can find more about local care homes on this website: www.cqc.org.uk.
